Scottish claymore, backedged blade with three fullers on each side engraved with 'Andrea Farara'. Steel open work basket hilt lined with white leather, black barrel-shaped wooden grip spirally bound with copper wire. Bun pommel and plain bun-shaped tang button.
Provenance
Recorded in the North Corridor at Windsor Castle (c.1850-66), no. 1329. Not identified in any previous inventories.
Mark on ricasso of oval punch with a pearled edge framing pair of open snuffers entered in register of marks of Solingen Swordsmiths in 1684 by Peter Zilles Kirschbaum. -
