An engraving of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor. A head and shoulder length portrait facing right, wearing a plumed hat, ruff, collared coat and the badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The portrait sits within a decorative oval frame composed of a male and female figure, birds and garlands of fruit. In the upper left and right corners of the image are two heraldic shields encircled by laurel wreaths. At the bottom centre of the plate is a framed Latin inscription beginning 'RODOLPH: II. A DEO DAT. AETERN. PRINC...' A further Latin inscription, printed separately, sits at the bottom of the sheet. The print is one from a series of portraits by Dominicus Custos published in four parts in Augsburg between 1600 and 1604.
