The portrait sits within an oval border bearing the Latin inscription 'FERDINANDVS I. DEI GRATIA ROMANORVM IMPERATOR SEMPER AVGVSTVS.' The frame is flanked by two fluted pilasters and sits upon a pedestal bearing a further Latin inscription and two vignettes of councils titled 'Comilia Augustana' and 'Consil Triden'.
