Fridericus III c.1641-1644
-
Etching with engraving of Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor. Half length portrait facing right, wearing a crown, brocade mantle fastened across the chest and armour. The portrait sits within an oval frame bearing a Latin inscription, 'CAES. FRIDERICUS. III. COGNOMENTO. PULCHER. ALB. CAES. FIL REC ROMANORUM.' At the bottom of the plate is another Latin inscription, 'Si mihi Boiorum nocuit Violentia quondam, Dum Consanguineos mavors committit iniquuos. Asscret hac cadem nostros ut spero Nepotes Cum revolutus erit seelis fatalibus Orbis.' Two artists monograms can be found in the lower right corner of the plate, 'GLotfi' and 'SF' (Sebastian Furck). The image was possibly cut from Nikolaus Helwig (or Helvicus) and Georg Engelsüß Theatrum Historiae Universalis Catholico-Protestant, printed in 1641 or 1644.
