-
Hand coloured engraving of Otto III, Holy Roman Emperor. Full length portrait facing left, wearing a crown and mantle fastened at the shoulder while carrying a sceptre and orb. The arch shaped portrait sits within a rectangular frame inscribed in German, 'OTTO III.' The print has been taken from a book titled Die Deutschen Kaiser, published by S. Schmerber c.1844-47. The book is illustrated by printed portraits of Holy Roman Emperors, all after painted portraits completed in the nineteenth-century and hung in Frankfurt's Kaisersaal, a room of the City Hall once used for the coronation of Holy Roman Emperors. Queen Victoria's collection mark can be found at the bottom of the page.
