Engraving of Lech I, legendary 6th century founder of the Polish nation. Half length with curled hair, beard, cap, and robes edged in fur, holding a sword in left hand. With German inscription below. Cut down.
One of a series of engravings of the rulers of Poland from 550 AD to the late 17th century. From a series 47 portraits all taken from Johann Melesander's Schau-Platz Polnischer Tapfferkeit, oder der tapffermüthigen Polnischen Könige und Fürsten Leben, Regierung, Thaten, und Absterben (1685).
