Engraving of Philip I the Magnanimous, Landgrave of Hesse. Whole length with short hair, cap, closed ruff, doublet, and robes edged in fur. The Landgrave is pictured standing, holding a sword in left hand and a cane in right, with a view of a battle in the background in which a soldier fires a cannon. With Latin inscription on a scrolled cartouche below. A plate from Monumentum sepulcrale, ad Illustrissimi Celsissimique Principis ac Domini, Dn. Mauritii Hassiae Landgravii ... memoriam Gloriae Sempiternam Erectum (1638).
