After Frances Sally Day (1815-92)
Prince Albert Consort (1819-61) c.1860-1900
Photograph with Hand-colouring | 26.9 x 17.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 605883
-
Photograph with hand-colouring of a portrait of Prince Albert as Consort. Whole length in profile right with short hair, collar, waistcoat, and coat. Standing holding a hat in right hand and with left resting on a wooden bench. With a view of a landscape in the background. Without inscriptions.
The original photograph featured both Prince Albert and Queen by Frances Sally Day, though it is possible that a single portrait was taken (see RCIN 2105655, for example). Later a 'new' picture was worked up which included the rustic bench and scenery, and hand-coloured. There is a similar variation of this, RCIN 2160695, with slightly different foliage on the left. In that version, there is a monogram on the wall beside the Prince which could read EHC in reverse (for Corbould, who coloured the photograph). -
