Engraving of George II as king. Allegorical frontispiece for David Durand's edition of Pliny's 'Livre D'Or': C. Plinii Hist. Nat. ad Titum Imperatorem Praefatior recensuit et notis illustravit, Dav. Durandus, 1728-34.' In top left, three cherubs support a frame containing bust length of George II and Caroline of Anspach in profile. To the right an image shows a man gambling with death. Below an author holds a large book and pen and resting the tome against the figure of time. O'Donoghue names the seated figure as Pliny, however Alexander argues that it is in fact David Durand. Below is inscribed a quote from Virgil's The Aeneid.
