Engraving of George II as king. Whole length equestrian portrait with tricorne, wig, lace coat with Garter Star on left breast, sash over left shoulder and baton in right hand. In background the scene of a battle. With coat of arms and English inscription below, including location of the original painting, 'Engraved by Simon Ravenet, after the Original in the Possession of the R. Honble. the Marquiss of Rockingham, Painted by David Morier.' The original portrait can be found in the Royal Collection, RCIN 404413. It was painted c.1745 to commemorate the Battle of Dettingen, 1743, which was the last occasion that a British monarch lead troops into battle.
