Forth state, for second and third states see RCIN 602757 and RCIN 602758. For the companion portrait of Charles II, see RCIN 602519.
This portrait Catherine of Braganza, paired with a portrait of Charles II, was engraved by Abraham Blooteling after portraits by Sir Peter Lely, Principal Painter in Ordinary. Blooteling came to England from Amsterdam in 1673, and was one of the first engravers in England to master the technique of mezzotint. Throughout his career Blooteling engraved many prints after Lely, who painted the King and Queen many times after the Restoration of 1660.
