  • A lightweight wooden kirikiti bat (pate), triangular in cross section. Bound over two-thirds of its length with a cord ending at the handle end in a loop, into which a wooden ball hangs. Incised with stars, a flag and inscription, 'PATE KIRIKITI SAMOA'.

    Kirikiti is a Samoan bat and ball sport similar to cricket which has been played since the late nineteenth century.

    From Western Samoa, given in 1974.
