Engraving of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster. Half length with beard, short hair, coronet, robes, and ermine mantle, holding sceptre in left hand. Within a Gothic window frame with title above, coats of arms on either side, and with a view of a tomb below. With an English inscription below. A plate from the second edition of Paul de Rapin-Thoyras' and Nicolas Tindal's History of England (1732-33) published by James, John, and Paul Knapton with plates by George Vertue, and re-issued by him in The Heads of the Kings of England, Proper for Mr. Rapin's History (1736).
