A soft-paste porcelain soup plate. Bleu céleste ground with gilded decoration. Single birds in a landscape setting are painted in colours in the four oval reserves of the border; two birds in a similar setting are represented in the centre of the plate. Plain gold bands frame the reserves. The flat border has an evenly scalloped twelve-lobed rim. Flanking the reserves and seemingly emerging from underneath them are branches of bay leaves and berries in tooled and burnished gold. Narrow gold bands run round the rim and the inside edge of the even border. The band framing the reserves is tooled with double feathered lines interrupted at the four cardinal points by crossed ribbons.
Provenance
