A set of five soft-paste bone ash porcelain sauce boats, each with a scalloped gilt rim, the handle formed of two entwined foliate scrolls; body with four Mazarine blue reserves with tooled gilt insects, swags of flowers painted between them; an individual spray painted inside.
Provenance
Part of a similarly decorated dinner and dessert service, known as the Mecklenberg Service, commissioned by King George III and Queen Charlotte, by whom presented to her brother, Adolphus Frederick IV, Duke of Mecklenberg-Strelitz in 1764. By descent until 1919; Sir Joseph Duveen: James Oakes by whom presented to HM Queen Elizabeth for her Silver Wedding anniversary, 1947.
