A gilt metal strut frame in the form of an open fan, the central oval aperture containing a tinted photograph by W. & D. Downey of Alexandra, Princess of Wales, and her eldest daughter, Princess Louise, and a lock of hair. This photograph was taken after the Princess's recovery from the severe attack of rheumatic fever which followed the birth of Princess Louise in 1867.
