A cardboard box containing a piece of Queen Victoria's and Prince Albert's wedding cake. The box is marked 'The Queen's Bridal Cake' above the date and location of the Wedding Breakfast, Buckingham Palace, 10 February 1840.
Provenance
Prepared for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's Wedding Breakfast in 1840. Wedding cake was distributed to many of those who had been involved in the preparations for the wedding, including the gentlemen and boys of the Chapel Royal.
The queen described the Wedding Breakfast in her Journal, 'We went downstairs [at Buckingham Palace] where all the Company was assembled and went into the dining-room,- dearest Albert leading me in,- and my Train being borne by 3 Pages... I talked to all after the breakfast.' -
