A pair of silver-gilt boat-shaped cruet stands, each with a gadrooned and foliate rim and shell-shaped handles, on four foliate scroll feet; fitted with four pierced frames on rectangular uprights containing two cut-glass bottles and two jugs with silver-gilt mounts and facetted stoppers. These stands form part of a service made by Thomas Heming between 1772 and 1774 for George III. Heming was the first working goldsmith to be made Principal Goldsmith to the King since the early seventeenth century - an appointment encouraged by Lord Bute.
