Oval silver-gilt tureen and cover, the finial cast as St George and the dragon, above an embossed foliate band. The tureen with handles cast as figures of Victory; the body embossed with leopards, putti and foliage, the lower body gadrooned; supported on acanthus scrolls and cast Royal supporters (lion and unicorn), with the Royal coat of arms between. With an oval stand with scroll handles, and acanthus and scroll feet.
Provenance
Belonged to Adolphus Frederick, Duke of Cambridge; sale of Cambridge property, 1904; bought by Queen Mary, at Christies' sale on 10 May 1916 of the property of Thomas James Barratt, for £202.
