Inside the teak log carried by this elephant is a blue silk scroll bearing an address from the citizens of Chittagong, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). When The Queen visited the city in 1961, she praised the resilience of its people, who had endured two cyclones and a tidal wave the previous autumn. Chittagong was Her Majesty’s last stop on her tour of Pakistan.
