Description

Lead crystal decanters and wine glasses decorated with The Prince of Wales' feathers and Garter stars cut into the foot of each item.

Provenance

Acquired by George IV when Prince of Wales, 1808.

In 1806 on a visit to Liverpool the Prince of Wales attended a dinner hosted by the city and for which the Liverpool Corporation commissioned a cut glass service. The Prince was so impressed that he asked the Mayor to order this second service for his own use (appropriately engraved with the Prince of Wales’s feathers). It was delivered to Carlton House in 1808.
