Sèvres soft past porcelain pair of pot pourri vases and covers. Turquoise blue ground, gilding and gilt bronze mounts, reverse egg shape with pierced bank mount between vase rim and cover, acanthus leaf handles and cup and plain square mount. Reserves on the front and reverse painted with polychrome scenes of classical figures in landscape and bouquets of flowers in vases.
Provenance
Probably bought by George IV from Edward Sharpus in 1819 as part of a garniture: ‘Three large Vase Sevre China turquoise colour with a clock £365 10s’. Recorded in 1826 in the Anti Room, Basement Floor, Carlton House: ‘No.64. The two side Vases and Covers, (companions to the last proceeding [sic] [cat. no. 106]) of sky blue and gold Seve Porcelain, richly mounted in ormolu, with double leaf handles; the upper rims pierced; square plinths; the fronts painted in Landscape and Figures the backs in flowers – 17 ½ In’.
