The bowl rounded, spreading sides and everted lip. Painted round the outside are nine lions playing with embroidered balls, their pupils in black, and claws, fangs and teeth touched with white. Inside, in the centre, a shou (long life) character surrounded by five bats. The six-character reign-mark Da Qing Jiaqing nian zhi ('Made in the reign of the Jiaqing emperor of the Great Qing') is painted in blue on the base in seal script.

Provenance
Corresponding to an entry in the Brighton Pavilion Inventory 'A white China Bowl with red Kylins, seven and a half ins.' [19.1 cm]’ (1829B, p. 126), and probably among the group of ‘Eight china bowls, (Various)’ sent to Buckingham Palace in April 1847 (1829A, p. 11).
