Navette-shaped ivory patch box with gold rims, the interior of the hinged lid fitted with a mirror; the box lined in red velvet. The lid with inset ivory miniature of Princess Augusta (1768-1840): bust-length; head turned half to the left; wearing white dress with a high collar, double orange coral necklace with blue enamelled anchor pendant; brown hair tied with a ribbon; brown eyes; brown background.
A copy of Princess Augusta's head in Beechey's three-quarter length seated portrait of her, painted for the Prince of Wales, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1797 (RCIN 403416).Provenance
