A rectangular, silver-gilt, double-lidded box with chamfered corners, with guilloche border and four scroll feet; one compartment fitted with central divider.
Struck with marks for Imlin, Strasbourg, 1760.Provenance
Part of a toilet service supplied to Caroline Polyxène, Landgravine Frederick of Hesse, who left it to her daughter Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge, who in turn left it to her daughter, Augusta, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Queen Mary bought the set from her Mecklenburg cousins in 1933.
