A rectangular jasperware plaque with canted corners, the background slate coloured dip and the white relief decoration of a scene with several female figures, three young putti, a temple and a sacrificial altar, the whole set in a ribbed gilt metal bezel. The scene is a combination of The Cupid Market, and to the right A Sacrifice to Cupid. Other examples of this shape are fitted into the top of small gilt metal boxes.
Provenance
First recorded in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in an inventory of Wedgwood porcelain dated 1914-17.
