An oval jasperware plaque within a gilded metal frame chased with arabesques and water leaves, the dark blue dip plaque with white low relief decoration of William Eden (1744 - 1814) facing right, his hair dressed into a tied ponytail and curled above the ears, probably formed from a wig, wearing a high collared jacket with lace cravat and drapery over his right arm.
Provenance
First recorded in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in an inventory of Wedgwood porcelain dated 1914 -17.
Reilly and Savage, Wedgwood, the Portrait Medallions, p.52. Another example in the Brooklyn Museum. Eden was a correspondent of Josiah Wedgwood. Modelled by Eley George Mountstephen. -
