An oval jasperware plaque of blue dip in gilt metal bezel and upright rectangular giltwood frame with suspension ring and bombe glazing, the plaque white white low relief decoration of the profile of George III, facing right, his hair curled above his ear and held in a ponytail behind, a row of buttons on his jacket and the riband of an Order across his chest.
Provenance
The frame by J. Manley of Eton is from the early twentieth century. First recorded in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in an inventory of Wedgwood porcelain dated 1914 - 17.
Reilly and Savage, Wedgwood, the Portrait Medallions, p.165. Noted as modeller unknown, originally made c.1790, and also made in a Tassie. -
