An oval jasperware plaque in blue dip with white low relief decoration of a portrait of Edward, Duke of Kent, fourth son of George III, bust portrait as a boy in profile to the right, long hair looped at back, overcoat, ribbon, ruffle. Set in a giltwood frame with flowers at the corners and beaded and gadrooned border.
Provenance
Reilly and Savage, Wedgwood the Portrait Medallions p.127. The portrait is often attributed to Flaxman.
The frame was acquired by Queen Mary. First recorded in the Royal Collection in an inventory of Wedgwood porcelain dated 1914-17. -
