Prince Leopold was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's eighth child and fourth son. He was created Duke of Albany in 1881. In this silver statuette he is depicted full length, standing and facing forward, wearing a waistcoat, bow tie and an academic gown and holding a book in his right hand which rests against his right thigh.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Victoria the day after opening the International Exhibition of Navigation, Commerce and Industry by the Exhibition Committee, May 1886.
