A watercolour showing the royal children in a tableau at the conclusion of the play Red Riding Hood. Signed and dated: Edward Henry Corbould Feb. 10th 1855.
The seven eldest royal children, along with friends, performed Red Riding Hood for their parents' wedding anniversary in February 1855, having previously performed it on 30 January. This watercolour depicts the concluding tableau that was added to the second performance, which Queen Victoria thought was "very prettily grouped" (Royal Archives, Queen Victoria's Journal, 10 February 1855). As drawing tutor to the royal children, Corbould was the obvious choice to paint the scene.
