A heavily weathered sandstone statue of a male figure in sixteenth or seventeenth century dress playing a fiddle or violin.
Provenance
Sometimes traditionally believed to represent David Rizzio.
Formerly part of a sculpture exhibition on Calton Hill developed by Forrest, which closed at his death in 1852. This sculpture was thereafter at the Royal Gymnasium, Fettes Row, and sold Lyon and Turnbull, Edinburgh, 6 November 1876 lot 7 (£55). -
