This medal was struck in France to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The obverse depicts an uncrowned Queen, wearing a necklace. On the reverse there is the northern facade of Windsor Castle, as well as the Round Tower with a coronet above it. This medal was designed by Henri Dropsy, a French sculptor and medallist who studied under his father Emile Dropsy. Henri later taught at the École des Beaux-Arts.
Provenance
A gift to HM Queen Elizabeth II from Vincent Auriol, the President of the Republic of France, on the occasion of her coronation, June 1953.
