This is a South African medal that was minted to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI in 1937. On the obverse are conjoined busts of the King and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Consort. They are both crowned. At this point in the history of the relationship between Great Britain and South Africa, South Africa was a colony. On the reverse side of the medal are a lion and lionesses standing on a rocky outcrop. This medal was struck at the Pretoria Mint.
