This medal was struck in 1911 to celebrate the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary., The obverse shows a joint bust of King George V and Queen Mary, both crowned facing left. The reverse shows the King enthroned with the lion at his feet and holding the Orb and Sceptre, being crowned by Britannia. Queen Mary is also seated at his side wearing her crown, with Westminster Abbey in the background. The medallist is Frank Bowcher who was a founding member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He trained at the National Art Training School which is now the Royal College of Art. Bowcher replaced W. G. de Saulles, who had designed other coronation medals, as the Engraver at the Royal Mint in 1903.
