This coin commemorates the Coronation of King Edward VII in 1902. The obverse shows a bust of the King and a laurel branch underneath to symbolise triumph as well as a symbol for a crown. On the reverse it shows a draped bust of his Queen Consort, Alexandra who is also crowned. This medal was designed by George William de Saulles, whose grandfather had been the Page of the Presence in the household of both George IV and William IV. De Saulles trained at the Birmingham School of Art, and came to work in London in 1884. In 1893 he became engraver to the mint.
