One of 15 coins and medals in a case formerly in the possession of Charles Edward Stuart, 'The Young Pretender' (RCIN 7443193).
The marriage of James III & VIII to the Princess Clementina on 1 September 1719 is commemorated on this medal, which shows a double portrait of the couple on the obverse, and an allegorical scene on the reverse.
Technical description
1 medal : copper (Italian red leather box, gold tooling)
Obverse: Conjoined busts of Prince James and Princess Clementina, he cuirassed and wearing sash of an order. IACOB. III. R . CLEMENTINA . R .
Reverse: Hercules leaning on his club and taking the hand of Venus holding a flower, she is attended by Cupid holding cadaceus. REGIVM CONNVBIVM In exergue: KAL . SEPTEMBER . / MDCCXIX .

Formerly in the possession of Prince Charles Edward Stuart ('The Young Pretender'), who presented it to his secretary Andrew Lumisden between January 1766 and April 1769; by descent to Lumisden's grand-niece, Louisa Mure. Later aquired by Lady Clinton and presented to King George VI and Queen Mary.
