Crowned oval of diamonds; central oval portrait of George IV, bust-length, facing front, head turned half left, wearing Field Marshal's uniform, miniature ribbons, Golden Fleece, stars of Garter, Holy Spirit, Black Eagle and St Andrew. The miniature is one of many copies of the state portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence, painted in 1814-15, which were made for George IV to give away as presents. Small versions on blue ribbons, like this one, were worn on the shoulder on state occasions.
On the reverse of the miniature is the monogram GRIV in diamonds beneath a diamond crown.
Provenance
Belonged to Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, purchased from the family by Queen Mary, 1922. See SJP INS 92c
