A circular plaster bust relief medallion depicting Ferdinand, Duc d'Orleans, the eldest son of King Louis-Philippe I of France, shown in profile facing left, with fashionable curly hair, beard and moustache. The medallion is mounted in a square mahogany frame with a convex glass cover and a patterned gilt metal bezel. Jean-August Barre was a French sculptor and medallist. A regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon from 1831, Barre concentrated in the production of miniature portraits of famous contemporary figures, including members of the French royal family and ballet and theatre celebrities.
