Constans 1995, II, no. 5370). On a visit to the Château d'Eu in September 1843, Queen Victoria wrote: 'Chisa is very dear & sprightly, she has a beautiful figure, a fine dark skin, beautiful large brown eyes, & long eyelashes, & fine delicate eyebrows; a good, slightly bent nose, a rather large mouth, she is very naïve but very nice in her manners' (RA VIC/Z 278/10).
Françoise, 'Chisa', fourth daughter of Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil, and Maria Leopoldina, daughter of Francis I, Emperor of Austria, and sister of Maria II of Portugal, married, in 1843, François, prince de Joinville, third son of Louis-Philippe, King of the French.
