-
This enamel depicts Anne Marie Louise d’Orléans, duchesse de Montpensier, known as ‘La Grande Mademoiselle’ (1627-1693), the daughter of Gaston, duc d’Orléans (brother of Louis XIII) and Marie de Bourbon-Montpensier. She inherited a vast fortune from her mother who died shortly after her birth and was considered as a bride for Charles II and for Louis XIV. Although many members of the family of Louis XIV and members of his court were depicted by his Court Painter in Enamel, Jean Petitot, the style of this enamel differs from Petitot's, and it cannot be linked to Petitot or his school.
