This miniature is a variant of the head of the king from the full-length portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence (London, Wallace Collection), painted in 1822 – an image which was popular and frequently copied. The king is depicted with the Star of the Order of the Garter and wears uniform instead of the black clothing in Lawrence’s original.
The identity of the artist is unknown. -
