This small work in oil depicts Cupid standing with his quiver of arrows secured around his chest with a grey ribbon. It is signed with initials: 'OK' in the background on the right and the gilt frame is engraved on the reverse with the inscription: 'Professor O. Knille'. Otto Knille (1832-98) was born in Osnabrück. A pupil of W. von Schadow in Dusseldorf, he studied in Paris and worked in Munich and Italy as a painter of history and genre scenes before settling in Berlin in 1865.
