Portrait of an Unknown Boy
-
This miniature and RCIN 402981 are framed in similar lockets and hang together. We do not know the identity of the boys, but it has been suggested that they may be grandsons of King Frederick William II of Prussia.
The identity of the artist is uncertain but the portraits have been attributed to Johann Heusinger (1769-1846). Heusinger was born in Wolfenbüttel and exhibited in Berlin from 1789. He was appointed teacher of drawing to the Crown Prince Frederick William IV and his brother. He also worked as a designer for Berlin’s porcelain factory.
Both miniatures are signed and dated I.H. 1815.
