Ernestine (1727-96) was the daughter of George Augustus, Count of Erbach-Schönberg. In 1754, she married Henry XXIV, Count of Reuss-Ebersdorf. She was great grandmother to both Prince Albert and Queen Victoria.
This miniature appears to be a copy of a portrait painted around 1795, towards the end of the countess’ life.
It is attributed to Karl Christian Philipp von Reichel (b. 1788), who was working with his brother Jakob in St Petersburg from around 1800 to 1850.
The miniature is inscribed on the ivory back in modern handwriting in pencil: Pss Ernestine / of Reuss-Ebersdorff / Reichel 1813.
