It is uncertain who this princess is, although it has been suggested on the basis of the inscription on the reverse that she may be Princess Victoria Marie Louise, later Duchess of Kent and Queen Victoria’s mother. Victoria, Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld married, as her first husband, Emich Charles, Prince of Leiningen (1763-1814)..
The miniature is inscribed on the back in ink: Fürstin v Leiningens, and on the backing card in pencil: E.Farrer Rivers but we do not know who this is. The identity of the artist is unknown.
