A superbly sensitive and sympathetic portrait of the artist's father, which so impressed Prince Albert that he purchased it for the collection of miniatures at Windsor Castle. The location of the original by Möller is not known. The miniature was very well received when exhibited to the public at the RA in 1851, one reviewer commenting: 'This work is remarkable for its brilliancy and sweetness of colour, and for the roundness and softness of the features as seen under a breadth of light – it is an exquisite miniature' (Art Journal, 1851, new ser., III, p. 16).
Peter Asmus Möller was the son of Nicolaus Gottfried Arnold Möller of Lübeck. A master plumber, he married, in 1804, Susanna Doro-thea Vetter, and died, aged seventy-nine, on 5 September 1858.
