Portrait of a Man 1795 - 1810
-
Despite the inscription on the back of the miniature, the sitter bears no resemblance to accepted portraits of Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834). The style of clothing dates from 1800-5.
The identity of the artist is unknown.
The miniature is inscribed on the backing paper in ink: Coleridge, with a splash of vermillion paint.
