Elizabeth Albertina (1713-61) was the eldest daughter of Frederick I, duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen. In 1735, she married Charles I, duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Their daughter, Charlotte, became Queen Charlotte when she married George III in 1761. John Watkins, in his memoirs of Queen Charlotte in 1819, gave 'a pleasing account ... of the domestic discipline and manners of this princely house, which appears to have supplied an admirable model to the cultivators of the difficult art of maintaining family subordination and union without the sacrifice of cheerfulness', according to one critic in The British Review (1820), who described Elizabeth Albertina as 'this excellent mother'.
The miniature is based on a portrait thought to be by Daniel Woge.Provenance
