Frederick Augustus (1750-1827) succeeded his father as Elector of Saxony in 1763 and, in 1806, became Frederick Augustus I, King of Saxony. Here he is wearing Saxon military uniform with the Order of the Golden Fleece, the ribbon and star of the Rue Crown, and the star of the White Eagle.
This portrait is a copy of a full-length portrait by Carl Vogel von Vogelstein, signed and dated 1823, in the Staatliche-Kunstsammlungen in Dresden. It was engraved by Louis Koellner, Moritz Steinla and others. The identity of the artist is unknown.
